Practical Considerations
Alloys, alloys, alloys!
Alloys, alloys, alloys! If you think the skin on your finger is sensitive, think again. Septum, belly or pubic piercings have to have a MUCH higher consideration for allergies and sensitivities. Using a nickel free alloy that doesn’t include any toxic metals (barium, cadmium, lead etc) is essential. Without it, you can’t expect to have repeat customers who will recommend the brand in this space. This is one of the reasons we only use UPM alloys (United Precious Metals). UPM are a US based industry leader and very open about the content of their alloys. There are too many manufacturers who cheap out and substitute poor quality, backstreet alloys. They also take no responsibility for the contents.
Earring backs & closures
Special consideration needs to be given to closures and earring backs/nuts that will be comfortable to wear and hold up over time. This is where close collaboration with the brand is a must.
Posts & findings
For similar reasons, certain findings such as posts may need to be stainless steel for wear. Posts need to be shorter for high piercings and the ends polished for the comfort of the customer. With an ear crawlers the traditional post and nut is going to create customer service problems. We spend time thinking about the sales person.
